At this time, Vancouver was a polished city with fresh buildings. Offerings for people to see something they've never seen before lived mostly in the island, mountains, and interior and cuddled the city from all sides. It was easy to drive through neighbourhoods without feeling distinct flavours. There was a footprint of nomadic, seasonal, communal life that had been paved over. People had been there for over 8000 years and money had been here less than 150 and got stuck on houses. In the daytime Vancouver felt pleasant and warm and convincingly sunny. At night, the buildings outnumbered the people willing to fill them.
